Lake Mirror of Venus

Lake Mirror of Venus

Suggestive name that takes us back in time which tells the story that Venus use to come over here to look at herself reflected on the calm water of the lake!… And where in ancient times stood a temple, now completely destroyed, dedicated to her.

Returning to the more profane things the bed of the lake is not the crater of a volcano but the final stretch of the caldera’s floor, the same that we can find in the Ghirlanda Valley and in Monastero Valley.
Its level is few feet higher than the sea level, so the water containing soda is not salty and whose mud is used as a beauty mask by the several visitors who daily attend its banks.
The area adjacent to the lake is very fertile and the particular exposure sheltered from cold winds, favors and anticipates a lot, compared to other areas, the growth of vegetables and seasonal fruits.
All first agriculture products arrive, in fact, always from the lake.
Bugeber is the little village above the lake with a superb view that ideally merge the water of the lake with the sea water. Inhabited since the time of Cossyra, has come to us with the clear origin of the Arab name “Abu giabir”
